Step 1: Create a new project in KooBits

Step 2: Choose a new template that fits your theme, from wedding theme to vacation to baby theme.

Step 3: Upload your images from your photo album to the KooBits software.

Step 4: Simply drag and drop the images from the left panel onto the template and viola! a new Photo Montage.

Koobits can be used for any creation of ebooks. It comes with a huge teacher's resources that includes any images of animals, plants , characters and more. However, we are not complete with that yet and I shall explain why.

I was trying to create an ebook about bamboo blinds the other day. I went to our resource library and look for images of any types of bamboo blinds, from bamboo roman shades to bamboo vertical blinds.I manage to find a few pictures about windows but there was none of the images that I was searching for.

This tells me that there is still a lot of work left to be done. What if I want to create a book that sells stuff. How about an ebook that works like ecommerce and allows people to sell things like bamboo blinds? Would that be possible with Koobits?

I think we got the technology but we need business cases now. We are in a stage where we need to figure out what is the greatest value our technology can provide and focus our energies on realising that.

Naval Base Primary Uses Ebook Technology for Competition

Naval Base Primary School, located at 7, Yishun Avenue 4, has had a history with ebooks software and using them as a means to promote creativity and sense of sharing within the school community.

On the 14 November 2009, a hands-on session was conducted by Mr Stanley Han at the school using KooBits software. This was done as part of a writing competition for youths from primary and secondary schools. KooBits serves as an online, interactive publishing platform that allows users to create interactive ebooks by integrating videos, 3D graphics, flash files, 2D animations and multimedia.

Due to its latest ebook technology in Interactive Digital Media, KooBits was chosen as the ebook software for the Young Author Award 2009 Competition (YAA), which aims to discover, inspire and nurture young literary talent in Singapore. The competition is opened to Primary and Secondary school students. The awarding of winners just took place this weekend, on the 13 and 14 March 2010, during the Media Fiesta celebration by MDA. Winners will receive cash prizes and stand to get the chance to get their books published.

The first Young Authors Award was held on 28 Feb 2004, and a Special Achievement Award was given to 12-year old Aditi from Naval Base Primary School who wrote a 21,000 word saga called The Chain of Tears.

On the 16 Mar to 24 April 2009, a nation-wide digital writing competition called the “N.E.w Author Competition” was held for schools, primary, secondary and tertiary alike. The competition, which is open to all students in Singapore, is organized by Personal e-Motion Pte Ltd (PEM), the company behind the interactive digital media software for ebooks, KooBits.

Raffles Girls Primary School became one of our contestant schools for this competition. The objective of the N.E.w Author Competition was to create an interactive ebook using KooBits Author, an ebook software designed and developed by PEM.

So with the competition in full swing, we had to conduct many training sessions on how to use Koobits as the choice of ebook software for this competition. The girls were so excited to learn about KooBits that they did not mind coming back to school for a hands-on training during their March holidays. Our trainers are very well-trained and helped the students learn the technology and features of KooBits until finish creating their story into an ebook that contains many interactive digital media elements that make their story come alive. However, they would have to follow the theme of National Education. The girls were so excited that one of them reportedly liked the software so much that she and her mum paid a visit to our office!

With a solid infrastructure already in place, it was easy for Bendemeer Primary School (BPS) to incorporate greater technology into their curriculum. Its principal, Mrs See Lai Kwan hopes to make use of technology to develop pupils into independent, reflective and creative learners. One of the softwares used by the school was KooBits.

KooBits is a multimedia tool that can be used for all subjects in the school. Its capabilities include being to link a host of multimedia devices as well as fill-in-the-blank options. This means that students can combine Youtube videos, pictures, flash etc into an e-book. Another benefit is the interactivity promoted by the created e-books.

Teachers in Bendemeer Primary School have already used this e-book software to create books for Chinese, Tamil, Malay, Mathematics and Science lessons. Student feedbacks have been very encouraging as more expressed that learning is now fun and they are motivated to create personalized and innovative e-books. For teachers, they see an increase in students’ participation and interest. Thanks to the school’s vision of integrating Information and Communications Technology (ICT) into curriculum, students in Zhonghua Primary School (ZPS) are now exposed to ICT at all levels. In particular, KooBits has played an important role in improving students’ competency in ICT as well as promoting creative thinking.
KooBits, an e-book software that allows users to easily express their ideas using different digital media and create highly interactive digital content. Students would be able to fuse different multimedia tools together to present a dynamic and lively e-book. With its user-friendly technology, students would have no difficulties putting their ideas into a book.

Teachers in Zhonghua Primary School pioneered a Project Two in 2006 which involved students using KooBits to improve students’ writing. Using pictures and animations, teachers were able to capture the students’ attention and participation. These were obtained from the extensive resource pool available in every KooBits programme. For the weaker students, KooBits provided fill-in-the blank options that prompted them with hints and suggestions.

For students, it gave them a chance to showcase their writing flair. Story ideas were penned and later converted to e-books. The students were able to share their books in a library that was created by the school. Besides that, some had the opportunity to print their e-books as a testament of their writing capabilities.
As a result of this e-book technology, it was shown that the students’ esteem improved and were more confident in expressing their thoughts. In addition, students showed more interest in topics that they worked on and this improved their understanding skills.

Budding Writers from Yangzheng Primary School Shine through KooBits

National Education and technology might seem like a bizarre combination but what was produced by Hayden and Russell of Yangzheng Primary School (YZPS) was far from odd. Their e-book entitled ‘Singapore’s Story from the Eyes for a Mouse’, based on the National Education theme ‘Rising above our challenges’ emerged as the champion for the primary category of the N.E.w Author e-Book Competition 2009. They beat over 500 teams and 2000 participants to clinch the top position.

Using KooBits, an interactive digital software, the pair was able to produce a creative and educational piece that brought us through the tumultuous years of early Singapore. Using the e-book software, users are able to employ various digital resources, such as image, video, animation and sound, and combine them into an interactive e-book. Students in Yangzheng Primary School are coached by trainers on how to insert digital resources like Youtube videos and flash animation. Upon acquiring the skills, students would be able to create their own e-books that can be uploaded onto an online platform to be shared among their peers and teachers.

Teachers in the school have also incorporated this e-book technology into their curriculum. For the mathematics department, theories on geometry were explained through the use of shapes, audio and flash animation that aided teachers in fully explaining to the students.

For the budding writers, KooBits also provides an avenue for them to showcase their stories. With the user-friendly technology, children will find it easy to translate their ideas into stories. Along with the extensive resource library, every e-book created will be a personalised piece.

Fun Lessons in CHIJ Our Lady of Good Counsel through KooBits

For students in CHIJ Our Lady of Good Counsel (OLGC), work assignments have never been more interesting. The school’s use of KooBits has made lessons more lively and engaging for them. This e-book technology enables students to create personalised books that can be shared and archived for future purposes.

With KooBits, students are able to create to combine an array of multimedia technology into one book. This means that a combination of flash, video, audio and visual can be presented on one book to provide an all dimensional learning experience. For instance, students in P6 have utilised the software in their Social Studies presentations to explain the history of Singapore. Together with Youtube videos and voice recordings, the result was an engaging walk of Singapore, from past to present.

Teachers in the CHIJ OLGC have also found the e-book software useful in creating lesson packages to suit the different abilities of students. With the wide range of resources available in this programme, they commented that it helps them in customizing their lesson plans to cater to the different learning pace of each class. The online platform also helped them in the collaboration and sharing of resources which enabled them to explore more angles.

Students have also brought KooBits beyond the classroom with their participation in various competitions and events. Teachers and parents were educated on National Education concepts on Total Defence Day by students using the e-book reader.
Mdm Catherine Woon, principal of the school commented that she has noticed greater student engagement. She says that the e-book software serves as an interesting and dynamic solution to helping students understand mundane topics.

We take a look at how Ahmad Ibrahim Primary School has successfully melded technology and effective teaching together to create a fun yet educational environment for their students.

Ahmad Ibrahim Primary School, located in Yishun was introduced to the e-book software in 2007 and has never looked back since. Students in the school are taught how to create animated and interactive digital e-books using the KooBits software. With KooBits, students can easily use an assortment of multimedia tools in their work. This removes any technological barriers that previously hindered students from fully expressing their creativity. Besides that, students can choose from a myriad of resources to help them in illustrating their books. Upon completion, students can share the book among their classmates and archive it for future purposes.

Since the acquisition of the e-book software, students in the school have actively churned out many books for various subjects. For instance, these young authors deftly created e-books explaining various rules and theories in science and mathematics. With the help of KooBits, they were able to use a combination of audio, animation, flash and Youtube videos to construct an e-book that was dynamic, interactive and engaging.

Mdm Sim Siew Tin, principal of the school said that student experiences are now more interesting and multi-faceted. “We have noticed a spike in students’ interests and they are now able to concentrate and focus better. Using KooBits has facilitated our teachers in explaining the concepts better and wane away from textbooks. In addition, it has also served the purpose of equipping students with relevant InfoComm Technology (ICT) skills that will help prepare them for the future.”
In addition to using the software to create learning materials, the budding authors in Ahmad Ibrahim Primary School have also created award-winning entries for various competitions and exhibitions such as the National N.E. E-books Competition.

Ebooks Competition – Damai Primary School Perspective

On the 16 Mar to 24 April 2009, a nation-wide digital writing competition called the “N.E.w Author Competition” was held for schools, primary, secondary and tertiary alike. The competition, which is open to all students in Singapore, is organized by Personal e-Motion Pte Ltd (PEM), the company behind the interactive digital media software for ebooks, KooBits.

Damai Primary School became one of our contestant schools for this competition. The objective of the N.E.w Author Competition was to create an interactive ebook using KooBits Author, an ebook software designed and developed by PEM.

Damai Primary School had an IT trainer from LEAD that took on the role as project facilitator for the contestants, who were from Primary 5 and 6. He helped the students learn the technology and features of KooBits and supervised them from the point they learn about the technology behind our ebooks software up to the point they finish creating their story into an ebook that contains many interactive digital media or elements that make their story come alive. However, they would have to follow the theme of National Education, and hence these students’ ebooks should center on that theme as much as possible.

With the trainer’s help, a team of Primary 6 students won a Merit Award with their interactive ebook titled “Rising Above Our Challenges”. It was commendable since there were more than 2000 entries from 80 schools! According to one of the participating students, Nor Arinah Samsudin, the training for KooBits was “fun and enriching” and the journey from Day 1 to Judging Day has enlightened her about Singapore and its history.

Damai Primary School is situated at 52 Bedok Reservoir Crescent, and was started in 1984 as one of the 1980s' "New Generation schools" with Miss Hazel Lange as the first Principal. Nan Hua Primary School uses Ebooks

We are honoured to announce that we are now part of Nan Hua Primary School’s ICT Programme. The school, located in 30 Jalan Lempen, hopes to (empower teachers to experiment using different pedagogical approaches with IT to develop students to be strategic learners who actively explore problems independently and collaboratively and express their creative ideas through the creation of products. IT will be harnessed to facilitate the analysis of information, investigation, problem solving and independent learning.) All of which, KooBits can and will help them achieve.

KooBits is a multimedia platform where users, students and teachers alike, can take bits and pieces of digital media and put it into one single platform, as a creation that they can call their own. Many schools have started using KooBits as a ebook creation tool to facilitate learning amongst their students. Ebooks Training at Eunos Primary School

On Thursday, 19 February 2009, KooBits had the pleasure of conducting a training session with the students of Eunos Primary School. The school, located at 95 Jalan Eunos, has requested for two wonderful lady trainers, Serena and Xingying, to train their Primary 2 and 3 students about our latest ebook software.

At 12pm sharp, the Primary 2 students from the Malay class streamed into the computer lab and sat down at their respective seats, with gleeful expressions on their faces. Upon starting up their computer, Serena kicked start the class by welcoming the students into the magical land of KooBits, where students can create interactive e-books with different forms of multimedia. It consists of an authoring software and the publishing portal at koobits.com!

Later in the afternoon, it was Xingying’s turn to guide the Primary 3 students. One interesting fact is that Xingying can conduct trainings in Malay! That is because she is a Malaysian Chinese, and hence can speak Malay fluently. She amazed the class and the teacher, who was under the assumption that the KooBits Intelligent Tool can only be used in English, by showing them the dynamism of the multi-lingual feature in Malay.

The Eunos Primary students were very responsive and enthusiastic throughout the lessons. What was more amazing was the fact that the school has arranged for some Primary 5 and 6 students to join in the training to help with facilitating the learning of the younger students. It was a very thoughtful initiative by the school as they realize that there are some students, especially the younger ones who are more timid, and are shy to voice out their questions. So in an attempt to make the lessons more favourable for these students, Primary 5 and 6 students were assigned to help out, as the lower primary students will most likely have better rapport with their seniors.

Apart from learning about the technology and features of our ebooks software, it is also important that students also learn about teamwork and the kind act of helping one another. Friendships made in school will make a difference to the educational experience of these students.

The teachers from Eunos Primary School were very contented to see that their students are learning a new ebook technology. They were greatly interested in the software and agreed that it could be a useful publishing tool to supplement the kids’ education and learning.

Nanoboy turned IMM upside down

Everyone enjoyed their day out at IMM playing games & quizzes, won limited edition Nanoboy premiums and watched exclusive trailers and sneaks from The new adventures of Nanoboy!

Many Nanoboy fans went home very pleased with Nanoboy premiums up for grabs from T-shirts, calendars, stickers, DVDs, bookmarks and vouchers.

The highlight of the event on both days was Nanoboy and Issac’s appearance. Both Superheros had a great time joining in the fun and games with their fans and friends. What’s more, fans had a chance to take pictures with Nanoboy and Issac Neuron.

N.E.w. Author Competition Ceremony

Welcomed by local dragons and cheerful boys at the entrance of Hwa Chong High School, we felt excitement rising to prepare for the N.E.w. Author Comp. Ceremony!

Results from participating students from all over Singapore was to be announced and awarded. Hearts pounding, smiles sparkling and feet strolling restlessly across the floors of Hwa Chong library.

Some of the great artists behind three nominated stories for the N.E.w. author competition! Anxious to get to the point, all were speaking avidly of their creations. What stories, animations and compositions!

Mind you, kids! KooBits is never your conventional, boring educational software that sits in the shelves of your school's computer labs to collect dusts!

Apart from the awesome technology and features we have (Can I hear a loud cheer?!), we have brought in Singapore's very own superhero and his friends to join the Kool KooBits Club!

If you think Superman is powerful, think twice.

How is he powerful? Hmmm...

Nanoboy will the NEXT BIG THING because he is the world's smallest hero who can save our megahuge earth! Smallest would be an understatement because you practically cannot see our superhero with your naked eye!

Let's do a little bit research together with your calculator. Wikipedia states that nano refers to one billionth of a metre, which means it has a SI prefix of 10^-9. How tall are you? 1.4 metres? 1.5 metres? Taking your height to be 1.5 metres, punch in these numbers into your calculator now: 1.5 x 10 ^ -9.

Nanoboy, hence, refers to one billionth of a boy. He is equivalent to the size of any particles and bacteria around you, which means he would be the superhero to save you and your family from swine flu, bird flu and any other bugs in the atmosphere. Together with his friends, they will combine forces to battle against all enemies!

Fights aside, Nanoboy is just another 9 year old boy just like you. He goes through countless of stressful examinations, probably constant nagging by his mother to do homework, jeerings from his fellow classmates for his miniscule height in reality and all the issues you are dealing with right now.

9 year old. Nano height. Superheroic mission. Nobody can do it except for Nanoboy!

Nanoboy is the brainchild of Scrawl Studios, a local animation studios started in 2002. With a strong team filled with artistic talents and creativity, Scrawl Studios has successfully emerged internationally, with fans from Korea, Australia, Canada and many more being their faithful animation supporters.

Very soon, Nanoboy will be featured on OKto TV for all of us but for now, you can enjoy these incredible content and animations from KooBits in your schools! Imagine how cool it will be when you get to know KooBits before all your other friends in other schools!

I am sure you know KooBits IS for children. But let me tell you, that's also our lunch!

What?!?!?!?!?! 神经病!!! Paagal!!! Fou!!! Crazy!!!

Read between the lines guys!

KooBits ordered KFC (KooBits For Children, hehehe!) for lunch today as it was about to rain. We feasted the juiciest fried chickens in our small, squeezy pantry together. After so many years, KFC still maintained its standard of giving finger lickin' good chickens! It tasted exceptionally better when everyone gathered, young and old, together for a short chillout session.

Fastest Fingers First! Jafri grabbed the first crispy chicken and hid himself in one corner.

Then it was Dr Chen who refused to be shot while he slurps his mash potato.

Adeline is grinning from ear to ear with her drumsticks!

The two most pleasant girls in KooBits munching on their wings. Sweet girls!

And in no time, the chickens were reduced to bones. Guess whose bones are those?

Tips, tips, tips!

Hey guys!

How has KooBits helped changed the way you think of books, projects, presentations and classes? Are you a master of KooBits yet, especially those who participated in N.E.w Author Competition? I am sure all the KooTrainers have passed on our skills and tips to make the coolest books!

Here's some tips to the rest of you who did not participate in the competition! Most of the interesting stuffs are hidden in the right clicks on your mouse, which is easily overlooked.

Tip #1: Story-telling Function
If you have a picture spread across the book, the book separation line may be an obstruction to the picture. You may want to set the picture to story-telling mode by doing a right click mouse action on the selected picture.

The book separator can be seen in the Read/Presentation Mode.

Go back to Edit Mode, select story-telling by doing a right click on your mouse.

Go back to the Read/Presentation Mode, the lines are gone now! You can also move the picture anywhere now in the reading mode!

Tip #2: 2D Animation -> Picture
You can change your 2D animation into a picture by stopping the animated process. Do a right click on the picture and select stop. This requires a little bit of aiming at the right position. Let's try!

That's a 2D animation from the Nanoboy plug-in! It's electrocuting something!

You can also try selecting "repeat" and see what happens!

Tip #3: Moving the Bubble Text
A lot of people could not find the trick behind moving the bubble text, selected from the Media Panel. Today, I shall reveal the answer to all of you!

The secret lies in moving the Edit Panel away because part of the bubble text is hiding behind it, as shown in the picture below! You can then choose different corners of the bubble to perform different functions.

Bubble Text: "Help me! I'm being blocked by the giant!"

Bubble Text: "Remember, my top right hand corner allows you to move me around while my bottom left hand corner enables you to change my size! So make me fat now by giving me words!"

Tip #4: Copy & Paste are Passé
Do you know that you no longer have to go through the hassle of copying/cutting and pasting when you use the wrong textbox in KooBits? All it takes is a simple right-click on your mouse!

For example, if you were using an Input Textbox and would like to switch to Auto Textbox, right click on the mouse and go to Set Type. Select Auto Textbox (or any other textboxes you wish to switch to) and voila!

A simple right-click can do wonder!

With all the above right click tricks, you can try doing this with us now!

The Polluted Sea

Firstly, source the background from the Clipart first. The one above is found in Clipart -> Background & Design -> Nature -> Mountain.
Next, do a right click on the picture and select Locked. This will enable your picture to fuse as a background.

Then, find the ship, explosion and ripple from their specific location. They are all found in Clipart, 2D Ani and Video respectively.

For some special effects, let's start with the ripple video. Right click on the ripple video to select Transparent. This allows you to change the opacity of the video.

Fill the sea with the ripple video so that it will seemed like the sea is moving literally.
Then, create path animations for the explosion and ship.

How do you create a polluted sea as the ship moves from one point to another?

Select the ripple video -> Select Ani Start (to set the start point of the animation) -> Change the color of ripples by right clicking on the video (Eg. Green color) -> Select Ani End (to set the end point)

Go to the Read/Presentation Mode in order to view your animations. You will be able to see the sea changing colors as the ship moves!

Aspiring Authors Through N.E.w Author Competition

With the N.E.w Author Competition in full swing, the KooBits team has been busy conducting multiple trainings. Even during the school holidays, students from the Raffles Girls' Primary School and North View Primary School were still eager enough to go back to school just for our KooBits training! Talk about enthusiasm!

Since three weeks ago, the KooTrainers have been running around the whole of Singapore because this year's N.E.w Author Competition is held nationwide for every level! As long as you are still studying, you can join us in this exciting book creation competition too.

Through the training sessions of 2 hours, I have seen some interesting stories being created by the students. Some of them are already uploaded onto KooBits' Library. There was an animated book about the policeman who commited suicide by Noelle from Damai Primary and another entitled "The Tiger & The Deer" by Tan Yi Hui from North View Primary.

Training will be officially ending by the end of this week. All of us have had an awesome time interacting with different students and inspiring each other with creative book ideas or even pictures. Do you know you can make your book more realistic by adding shadows?

The Fantastic Five & KooBits

Some of you have read it, some of you have not. If you have not, guess what?!?

KooBits was featured in the Straits Times on March 20, 2009! The reporter, Amelia Tan, and her photographer came to our office for an interview with Stanley & Dr Chen, as well as our KooKids! Check out the web version of the article here!

Our KooKids, as shown in the picture above from left to right, Lorraine Ge, Bani Muhamad Iyad, Abdul Qadir, Ryan Bangras and Tommy Tan was featured! They each brought their favorite book and showed them to Amelia who was genuinely impressed by their creativity. After a short sharing session, the KooKids decided to name themselves The Fantastic Five.

Amongst them, there is two excellent young writers, Ryan and Lorraine. Ryan, who loves action and excitement, decided to keep everyone in suspense by holding his story about an alien lost in space at the climax. He said, "The next book will be coming in two to three weeks time."

You heard him, let's be patient for now! Lorraine loves writing and writing non-stop because she desires to be a journalist or TV host in future. She said, "Koobits made it easy for me to write and publish my books. It allows me to be an author immediately online."

It was indeed relaxing to have children around the office to brighten up our day once in awhile.

Now, we see where creativity really comes from. His book is a definite must-see because he might just be your future director and producer from Singapore!

Through a short 2 hour interview, these amazing kids have made me view the younger generation from a different perspective. Even though some of them are only as young as 10 years old, their hidden capability amidst their small built is bigger than anyone can think of.

Albert Einstein once said, "To stimulate creativity, one must develop the childlike inclination for play and the childlike desire for recognition."

Creativity comes from children. I am glad that KooBits enables them to shine in their best abilities. No more undermining of a child's talent, let them unleash their fullest potential today!

One-Day Tour with the KooKids

KooBits had our inaugural one day tour for two very enthusiastic KooBits Star Authors, Bani and Tommy, from Eunos Primary School and Ahmad Ibrahim Primary School respectively. We spent a full day with them creating an e-book together using our latest KooBits version and brought them around different departments to take a sneak peek at our future plans and upcoming releases. Private and confidential stuff, shhhh! Do not pester them for these information, but I guarantee that you will love KooBits more!

Media Fiesta 2009 & KooBits

New media is taking Singapore by storm! From animations, digital games, publishing, film, broadcast to Interactive and Digital Media (IDM), hold on your reins for a big move in transforming Singapore into a state-of-art media city, standing at the forefront in this digital media age.

To spread the vision, Media Fiesta 2009, hosted by Media Development Authority (MDA) was launched to increase the awareness of digital media amongst the locals. A thematic event was held in Marina Square two weeks ago and KooBits is proud to be part of this exciting digital move!

The event was innovatively planned with different booths such as Inspiration Box, Sky Cinema and Innovation Tower. KooBits were called to do presentations on stage, as well as, inside the Inspiration Box filled with comfortable bean bags. There is not a single minute where anyone of us were bored because the Nintendo Wii was right opposite us and Nanoboy was playing in the Sky Cinema!

It was a busy yet enthralling four days for many of us. New friendships were established as we talked to some interested participants of the event. Ryan Bangras, our newly discovered talent, learnt KooBits in just 10 minutes and performed an impromptu demonstration to the crowd. Check out his first book at KooBits portal!

No, Ryan is not 20 years old but only 10 years old. TEN, monsieur et madamoiselle! That is how intuitive and powerful KooBits is for students, as young as 5 years old!

7 year old chefs, can you beat that?

Most parents, especially mothers, would wish that they can take leave from kitchen work even for a day. Mind you, I'm not talking about bringing the family out for a meal. Imagine your cute daughters or sons running home to tell you, "Mommy, let me cook for everyone today! You should just rest and I'll prepare your favorite meal, chicken rice!"

Do not pinch yourself, you are definitely NOT dreaming because the students from South View Primary are exposed to culinary learning as young as 7 years old! A cozy and clean kitchenette was built in 2006 to nurture little innochefs (innovative chef). The students will be brought to the supermarkets to get inspiration for their meals and create their own secret recipes for that! Pizzas, chicken rice, a typical 1 rice 3 dishes meal, these children can do anything! Amazing, huh?!

Now for the best part, the next goal for the students is to create ethnic food hailing from far away land, Kazakhstan because the school is hosting Kazakhstanis for the upcoming Youth Olympic Games 2010! I bet most of the KooReaders do not know what are the authentic cusine Kazakhstanis have! Well, let these students from South View Primary teach you!

Apart from just cooking, students are also trained in digital art-making using different softwares in their Digital Studio. At the end of the lesson, they would be able to create a beautiful batik art piece.

And the show begins...

Channelnewsasia, Asia's leading news network, went down to Eunos Primary School to film a documentary for educational tools that expedite child learning and KooBits is honored to be chosen as a provider of quality education. The idea was to capture the convenience and simplicity of KooBits that attracted children and encouraged them to learn beyond the four walls of their classrooms. Stanley, together with few other children who love KooBits, were being interviewed. Some students even showed the TV producer, Nancy, their new creation enthusiastically!

What Will You Defend?

After two weeks of intensive training, all the participants are finally well-equipped with KooSkills in preparation for e-Heritage competition, the first national heritage e-Book competition organized by South-West CDC.

This competition aims to create greater awareness of the development of South West district, be it the religious places, roads, buildings, people, and even the coffee shop below your apartments!

The trainers went down to Ngee Ann Secondary, Commonwealth Secondary, Kuo Chuan Presbyterian and River Valley High for different training sessions and met students from all walks of life. Some of the students are IT professionals while others are intrigued by the heritage themes. All in all, they are all geared up for this competition because there are attractive prizes of $3600 vouchers and trophies to be won!

To all students, all the best for the competition! We hope to see you guys again during prize presentation or some other days. Thanks for giving us such a fun time during the training!

"The KooBits Magic Show" went to Eunos Primary School last Thursday on February 19! Our two pretty magicians, Serena and Xinying, had the privilege to present to the adorable students of Primary 2 and 3.

Preparing for the magic show...

At 12 noon sharp, the Primary 2 students from the Malay class trooped into the computer lab. They streamed into their places in just a few seconds because all of them were excited about learning a new software for their upcoming project. Without hesitation, Serena kicked start the first presentation and welcomed the students into the magical land of KooBits.

The Primary 3 students were guided by Xinying later in the day. I am sure, none of you know this but Xinying is a pure Malaysian Chinese, who is fluent in Malay! She amazed the class and the teacher, who was on the assumption that the intelligent tool could only be used in English, by showing them the dynamicity of the multilingual KooBits in Malay.

All the students were very responsive and showed much enthusiasm while Serena and Xinying were conducting the lessons. You could tell that they enjoyed their tutorial sessions by their brightly lit faces! What amazed the two more was the caring environment that the school has nurtured. In the midst of the lessons, Primary 5 and 6 Malay students joined in to provide their assistance to the lower primary students. It was a sensitive and appropriate initiative by the teachers because the seniors stood in to be translators and facilitators as the younger ones were too shy to ask Serena and Xinying for help. It reminded me of my primary school days when we had the buddy system for recess to help facilitate the new kids to familiarize with buying food on their own. It gave me a sense of belonging and formed strong bonds with students of other levels, which I am sure the younger students feel the same way.

Education is important but what energizes students to pull themselves up from their warm cozy bed is the close friendships that they have made. At the end of the training sessions, the lower primary students took away not just knowledge of using KooBits but new friendships with their seniors. That is a very heartwarming scene.

For the teachers in Eunos Primary, they were very contented to see their students learning new stuff and are equipped to use KooBits for the products. They showed great interest in the software and agreed that it is a useful publishing tool to capture kids' attention. Mr Hoirull, Mdm Khadijah, Mdm Fatimah and Mdm Ridayu are all looking forward to the upcoming N.E.w Author Competition, where their students can create a meaningful book out of the competition.

That was an eventful day spent in Eunos Primary. Thank you all students and teachers!

N.E.w Author Competition is not only for the writers, please do not misinterpret!

N.E.w Author Competition is not just about competing for that beautiful star trophy, please do not misunderstand!

Now, let's bring the focus to the unusual first word, N.E.w! Why is the word "new" spelled with two "moles"? That's right, the moles are to separate the letters to abbreviate National Education and w is meaningless but makes sense later.

The aim for this competition is in line with the objectives of MOE's National Education.

to develop national cohesion, the instinct for survival and confidence for the future by fostering a sense of identity, pride and self-respect as Singaporeans, knowing the Singapore story, understanding Singapore's unique challenges, constraints and vulnerabilities and instilling the core values our way of life that ensures our continued success and well-being

Hence, the theme for the competition is "Rising Above Our Challenges", of how Singapore developed into a robust, bustling city from a tiny fishing village. The most exciting part of this is the chance to use KooBits to create your story!

For those who do not know about KooBits, it is an interactive digital software that allows you to transform your imagination into a visual act! Just imagine beautiful graphic images sprouting out, animations zooming across, YouTube videos of Mr. Bean with High School Musical's soundtrack in the background, let your fantasies come right before your eyes!

KooBits is in No Recession!

From just 3, to a few more and downsized back to 3 again, a glance is more than enough to determine the number of employees in KooBits a few years back. Those were the days when we faced shortage of manpower and the only survivors had to weather through countless stormy times and put in painstaking efforts, because their hearts were committed into one common goal.

Otherwise, let me introduce to you my lovely family of 13 today, all living under one roof together. Some of us are "newborns" while others are growing old with KooBits. The oldest (I don't mean the physical age guys, but the experience!) from the team goes to Professor Sam Ge, Dr Chen XiangDong and Stanley Han, the three musketeers! Yes, through the KooBits view, nothing is impossible because even impossible says "I-(a)m-possible!". It's all in the mind, folks! Moving on, many teachers and students would surely recognize these people. Hailing all the way from faraway land, Pakistan, is our 24/7 radio box, Jafri. Not only does he entertains the KooBits Team, he makes sure his clients are well taken care of as well. (If I'm wrong, feedback is definitely most welcome! Heh!). Then, we have Jafri's partner-in-crime, the pretty and highly organized, Serena Li! You can expect dust-free desk and immediate responses from her because she is simply the neatest and we all just love to stick around her to get the clean vibe.

Once in awhile, you can catch Serena Li and her sweet tooth gang during coffee breaks to munch on chocolates. The sweet tooth gang is coincidentally the youngest and craziest (I can't stress enough!) members you would love to be with. There is daily surges of serotonin levels in the office because our enthusiasm injects happiness to everyone. Watch out for more cranky blog updates from us, your dearest ABCs (Adeline, Bharath & Cheah Xinying)!

Sitting at two different corners are quiet and soft-spoken Eugene aka Mr Kumar and Anqi!

Eugene is our computer nerd who designs our website. He is probably the one who monitors your KoKo credits, so you better treat him better if you want to redeem Playstation! Anqi is our graphic designer, just like the images that you see on KooBits, she is just as cute, if not way cuter! She loves soft toys and gets her drawing inspiration from them! One of them is actually sitting on her desk, why don't you guess which one, off from KooBits software?

Recently, we added two new members into our team as well to kickstart some future projects. They are Li Xi & Wu Dan, the smartest brainiacs of us all, graduated from Hwa Chong Institution. I wonder if they have drank Abbott's Similac milk product - Grow! Grow! Grow!

Exciting New Features in KooBits 3.0!

After months of hard work, KooBits have finally come back with a whole new look with improved features to take the world by storm! All thanks to our IT smartypants, Dr Chen, in the office, today you can experience greater simplicity and exclusive, first ever in the market, features! If you follow through our first post, there was already a sneak preview but today we will take you through a detailed ride on some new features we have!

Put on your seat belts, everybody!
LET'S GO!

First up, you can Create Animation just through two simple clicks! Forget about the exhuastive keyframes and messy timelines, you can now make a person walk from one point to another point easily! How?

Use the 2D animated picture of a policeman and click on Ani Start.
Move your policeman to your desired position and click on Ani End.
Go to Read Mode to preview your animation.

Next up...Sony, Canon, Olympus, Nikon have gone huge with the ongoing crazy wave amongst young people and apparently, our IT smartypants heard the computers complaining about not being able to take personal shots of themselves. Hence, KooCam was also invented to join the trend, but in a totally different market! This Snapshot Tool enables you to take snapshots of your onscreen activities!

For example, if you love the logo on Blogger, just drag and scale the box to cover the area you want by first clicking on the SnapCam button. The picture will then be automatically transferred to your KooBits book. Simple enough? The same step can also be repeated for taking videos of ongoing activities on the windows through the SnapVid button.

Have you ever wish that Aladdin's genie could help you fulfill your wishes? Don't fret! In today's digital age, KooBits have also secretly created a digital genie - the Wish Box, to make your wish come true! Say you want a kitten, simply type "kitten" into the Wish Box and an adorable kitten will appear on your page!

Whilst many of us are still in the festive mood, here's wishing all of our partners, friends and you a very happy and prosperous new year! I am sure most of us had enjoyed shopping for new year goodies, mandarin oranges, preparing hongbaos (or collecting, for our little friends) and reuniting with our friends and families just last week. Well likewise, the entire KooBits team have also occupied our time with the necessary housewarming chores in preparation for a merry reunion night with everyone who has come a long way with us, giving us their warmth support constantly.

KooDay 2009, marks the closing of a year of happiness and success on a high note, as well as launching KooBits and its team into a whole new level of challenges - better support and service quality to existing customers, invading of international markets, and of course, producing the best, creative software yet for everyone. Having said that, KooBits 3.0 was officially launched on the event with exciting new features such as Wish Box containing over thousands of pictures that will be called out at your command, Snap Image/Video Capture functions for internal windows imaging/videoing and easy animation editing that could be done in just a few clicks!

But before all the actions of KooShow began, there were welcome speeches made by our genius, mad scientist Professor Sam Ge and hyperactive dancer boy, Stanley Han.

And then came along our Kooguest speaker, Mr. Yee Jenn Jong, CEO of AsknLearn, who gave us an amazing speech as well which we awarded him with a memento, a KooCoach jacket.

Supposedly our guests had dinner after the beautiful speeches but photos of our sumptuous buffet are unavailable because the food was simply too delicious that it was practically gone in no time. So, pardon our photographers for not being fast enough! If you really want to know what we have, there was creamy mushroom soup, rendang mutton, black pepper beef, grilled salmon, chicken topped with a little bit of wine for tasting, custard pudding, bite size tiramisu...are you drooling yet?

KooShow, then, started at 8pm sharp with Stanley dancing for the guests....you wish! Let's look at the snapshots to interest you with the show.

Yep, congratulations to Victor from AsknLearn. He will be very lucky and prosperous this year! With that, the lucky man concluded the night and committed the entire event into memories for everyone. Like Mr Michael Yap has envisioned for us, KooDay is going to be greater and grander every year, moving from NUSS Guild House to The Marina Bay Sands to the future Singapore stadium, the closing event relighted another fire in the hearts of the KooBits team to run after a bigger dream.

This is just the beginning of the race, are you ready to run?
